Interview with SP SMA student Anjana

SP student Anjana Ganesan aspires to join the marine industry and dedicated her final-year project to studying women's participation in the sector. She found that women make up only 2 per cent of the industry’s workforce, possibly due to reluctance to work on ships. However, she highlights that the marine industry offers diverse roles beyond seafaring, such as ship agents and sales. While marine engineering is typically male-dominated, female students make up 40 per cent in SP’s Diploma in Marine Engineering course. Anjana’s passion for the field was inspired by her father, a Quality Engineer in the marine industry.
