Maybank: Singapore may introduce measures in the budget to encourage companies to jointly invest in Johor-Singapore SEZ
31 Jan 2025
According to a 2024 survey by the Singapore Business Federation, nearly 60% of Singaporean companies operating in Johor struggle to find technical and skilled workers. Issues related to employment permits, such as foreign worker quotas, and the lack of skilled labour are the main causes of manpower shortages, with businesses still awaiting further details on the foreign talent pass. Singapore and Malaysia are collaborating to advance technical and vocational education programmes. Several Singaporean educational institutions have signed MOUs with Malaysian industry groups, such as the MOU between SP and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, and another between the ITE’s Educational Consultancy Services and the Johor Skills Development Centre.
