New task force to attract talent to construction and architecture jobs

04 Sep 2024

A task force has been set up to improve the image of jobs in construction and architecture, in a bid to attract more talent – especially the young – to work in these areas. The Government will also double down on efforts to raise awareness of the kind of jobs available in these industries, said Minister for National Development Mr Desmond Lee at the opening ceremony of the International Built Environment Week on 4 September. The three-day trade event is being held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 4 to 6 September. SP alumna Tiffany Kwan, a sustainability consultant at Building System and Diagnostics, highlighted that efforts to attract young talent to the industry are crucial, as many youths have misconceptions, such as the belief that long working hours are standard. While her job can be stressful during decision-making processes for developments, she finds fulfilment in seeing projects transforming from blueprints to buildings, with the final result being used by others, which motivates her to continue.
