Places for ITE students and graduates to increase in 2030

Article featured the increase in placement for Institute of Technical Education(ITE) students and graduates. More than 1,700 openings across the work-study diplomas, higher nitec courses and poly diplomas courses will be added from the year 2030 onwards. This is the government’s initiative to support ITE graduates in upskilling. In 2030, there will also be an increase in student intake for Polytechnics to allow more working adults to pursue professional and full-time diplomas.

Article also featured 40-year-old adult learner, Chua Aik Liang, who is currently a second year Diploma in Mechatronics & Robotics student in SP. After his O-Levels, Aik Liang pursued a culinary course at the Singapore Hotel and Tourism Education Centre(SHATEC) and worked as a chef for a few years. However, due to his deteriorating health, he ended his culinary career and switched to a logistics related job. At 40, he completed his Higher Nitec education in ITE and enrolled in SP to pursue his new found passion in Engineering. (Lianhe Zaobao, p10)
