Singapore Polytechnic and Singapore Maritime Institute signs agreement to set up research centre

Article featured the launch of a S$14 million research centre by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) to contribute to raising maritime safety and safety standards. The new Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS) will focus its efforts on two key areas, namely maritime navigation and operations on-board vessels. It will collaborate with the industry and research community to develop new technological solutions and training systems to help reduce the occurrences of maritime incidents. Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health, Dr Lam Pin Min, commented that the shipping industry creates many jobs for Singapore and it is also a pillar of the international economy.
