News clip featured projects by SP’s engineering students, which include the SP Driverless and Electrifying Car (SPDEC) and the SP Secure drones – which can detect intruders outdoor, indoor and underwater. These projects were showcased at the launch of Singapore’s first 5G facility, the 5G Garage, by SP, Singtel and Ericsson yesterday. The facility enables SP students and enterprises to develop and incubate solutions together with Singtel’s pilot 5G network. SP student Chung Zhuo Han, who is part of the SP secure team, shared how the incorporation of 5G technology will help take his project further. At the launch, SP, Singtel and Ericsson also signed an agreement to build the 5G ecosystem in Singapore. This includes a new 5G wireless technology curriculum, which will be introduced at SP’s engineering school in April. Mr Phua Tien Beng, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Operations Division at Parkway Pantai, opined that the 5G Garage is a classic example of how the industry and institutes of higher learning can work together to turn ideas into real life applications.
