Singapore to work with countries such as Norway and Japan to establish new digital system to strengthen maritime communications

Article featured the launch of new maritime e-navigation initiatives at the workshop co-organised by Maritime Port and Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities yesterday. MPA is also supporting a research and innovation project by ST Engineering, the Institute for Infocomm Research and National University of Singapore to develop a VHF-based Data Exchange System (VDES). The system will allow for real-time, high-bandwidth ship-to-ship shore communications. Senior Minister of States for Transport, Dr Lam Pin Min also announced a Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) for sea transport professional. This programme will involve MPA collaborating with SP, SkillsFuture Singapore and Workforce Singapore to help mid-career professionals re-skill and take up jobs in the maritime sector.
