Singtel, Ericsson and Singapore Poly open Singapore’s first live 5G facility

Article featured Singapore’s first live 5G facility, which was launched by SP, Singtel and Ericsson at the polytechnic’s Dover Road campus,. The facility, named 5G Garage, will serve as a training centre, test bed and ideation lab to develop Singapore’s 5G ecosystem and drive the adoption of 5G by enterprises in their digital transformations. As part of the partnership, about 250 final-year electrical and computer engineering students will learn about 5G wireless technology and how to apply it. There will also be technology transfer from Singtel and Ericsson 5G experts to Singapore Polytechnic staff and students. In addition, students in the Singtel Engineering Cadet Scholarship Programme will have the opportunity to take internships in the 5G Garage and develop services for real-life challenges. Mr Soh Wai Wah, SP’s principal and CEO, opined that the collaboration reflects the polytechnic’s strong industry partnership which is important to keep students’ learning relevant and updated.
