SP and Singapore’s first registered polytechnic student, Mr Lim Chin Aik, passes away

Article featured 96-year-old SP alumnus, Mr Lim Chin Aik and his passing. He enrolled in SP in 1957 and was the first registered polytechnic student of SP and Singapore. He pursued the diploma in Advertising and worked in Sales and Advertising at Nestle for 30 years after graduation. After which, he went on become the manager of Seletar Country Club before retiring in 2003. From 1993 to 2006, Mr Lim also served in the Executive Committee of Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild (SPGG) and later on received the title of Honorary Member in 2008. SPGG President Jimmy Lim shared that Mr Lim was a friendly person who worked hard to oversee the development and construction of the SPGG. Mr Lim was also a person with foresight as he contributed many ideas to improve SPGG to facilitate the increasing number of members. Thanks to Mr Lim’s ideas, SPGG is currently considering adding another level to the building. Mr Lim’s eldest daughter shared that her father was active even after he retired and was always concerned about SPGG. However in 2002, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He underwent a surgery to remove one kidney and his condition stabilised until it worsened in 2017. In February 2020, he became bedridden and passed away last Saturday. (Lianhe Zaobao, p7)
