SP collaborates with 4 organisations to drive transformation in the built environment industry
04 Sep 2024
SP inked agreements with four institutions from the built environment sector to help drive industry transformation, shift mindsets, and encourage more young people to join the sector. The agreements were signed on Wednesday, 4 September during the BEX Asia exhibition at the 2024 Singapore International Built Environment Week. SP's collaboration with the British Standards Institution (BSI) focuses on training employees with sustainable development skills, aiming to certify them as greenhouse gas practitioners and professionals. The collaboration with facilities management company ISS Facility Services will support course development and jointly organise learning journeys focused on smart facility management technology and sustainability, providing internship and training opportunities for lecturers and students. The partnership with Japan’s Kajima Development will primarily involve creating learning journeys, supporting SP startups. The collaboration with Soilbuild Construction Group aims to enhance productivity and digital adoption through joint projects and talent development, providing SP students with opportunities for project participation, internships, and scholarships, helping to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Deputy Principal (Development) of SP, Ms Georgina Phua (潘慧珠), pointed out that many young people still mistakenly equate the built environment industry with working solely on construction sites. She mentioned that even professionals within the built environment sector might be unaware of emerging trends due to their routine work. SMEs in particular, face challenges and may even believe that significant changes are unlikely to occur. Similar news reported in 8 World and Capital95.8.
