SP students develop solar car to enter World Solar Challenge in Australia

31 Jul 2019

Article featured SunSPEC6, a solar car developed by a team of 17 SP Engineering students. The car was launched in SP’s campus yesterday and it will be Singapore’s sole representative at the World Solar Challenge in Australia later this October. SP students are the only team from a polytechnic and they will compete alongside global universities such as Cambridge and Stanford. One of the students, Zheng Jieyi from the Diploma in Energy Systems & Management course, shared that the solar panels on the car converts sunlight into energy and stores it into the car battery. This not only powers the car but also eliminates the need to burn fossil fuels, minimising carbon emissions into the environment. (Lianhe Zaobao, p5)
