Article featured 20-year-old SP Diploma in Accountancy student, Wu Liuying. A year ago, Liuying’s family fell into a financial crisis as the factory that her parents were working for decided to close down due to poor business. Her mother managed to find a cleaning job but her father was unemployed for a period. Her younger brother is diagnosed with Autism and Dyslexia and her grandmother who resided in Malaysia suffered from a stroke. These events took a toll on her family’s expenses. Under the assistance of her lecturer, Liuying managed to apply for the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) bursary that provides her $3,000 a year to cover educational and daily expenses. Liuying is very grateful for the assistance rendered and strives to work hard to qualify for further education after graduation. (Lianhe Wanbao, p6)
