Students producing map to help people with disabilities navigate CBD

10 Jul 2019

Article highlighted the public accessibility mapping exercise, a project to improve the daily experience of employees with disabilities in the Central Business District (CBD) area. As part of the project, a group of 25 students from SP’s diploma in landscape architecture is working towards producing a map that gives an accessibility overview of the CBD area. This is part of their curriculum for universal design, where students carry out research and collect data onsite to conceive a map that will be presented to the authorities later in the year in a bid to make real changes in the area. The students also identified several areas that needed improvement, such as the need for more sheltered barrier free routes and more controlled crossings.
