19 Mar 2025
Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) is hosting the Youth Model ASEAN Conference (YMAC) 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 18-21 March 2025. In collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), YMAC 2025 will bring together 280 of ASEAN’s best youth to discuss the region’s most pressing challenges. YMAC is supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the National Youth Council Singapore. This year marks a historic milestone for YMAC, as UPH is the first institution outside Singapore to host the event. This underscores SP and UPH’s commitment to fostering collaboration and leadership development among ASEAN’s youth. The implementation of YMAC 2025 at UPH is a collaboration with SP which has officially started on 26 July 2024. Since it was first held in 2012, YMAC has always been based in Singapore. Mr Soh Wai Wah, Principal and CEO of Singapore Polytechnic, said, “SP is very enthusiastic about bringing the Youth Model ASEAN Conference to Jakarta, the first time outside Singapore, in collaboration with UPH. This initiative will enrich our students' understanding of ASEAN diplomacy and environmental sustainability while strengthening the network between students across ASEAN. This conference will equip them with the skills to become future leaders who can shape a stronger ASEAN,” he said. Rio Ashley Jeanelle Morada, SP’s Institutional Lead of YMAC 2025 and a second-year Diploma student in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, added, “I first came to know about YMAC through the SP Outstanding Talent Programme, and was inspired by the success stories of previous committee members. The opportunity to be part of the first YMAC held overseas further motivated me. In this role, I strengthened my leadership skills by bringing together a diverse team through collaboration between SP and UPH students. This experience deepened my understanding of ASEAN, increased my empathy and cultural awareness, and enriched my insight into regional developments.” Similar news reported in Banten Viva, Media Indonesia, Pemantik News, RCTI Plus, Tribune News and Medcom.
