Using the cloud to monitor the land

23 Jul 2018

Article featured SP Diploma in Computer Engineering students Pan Ziyue and Wei Wenjie. The duo developed MakeSense1, a landslide detector that leverages a cloud computing platform hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and collects data based on the composition of the soil, amount of rain received in an area and a tilt sensor that measures the steepness of the ground. They shared about their participation in the AWS Educate programme outside of the school curriculum, which covers aspects of cloud computing such as software development and big data analytics. Ziyue and Wenjie won a prize for MakeSense1 at the 9th International Programming Contest last year organised by Kosen National Institute of Technology in Japan. (The Straits Times IN, p7)
