Beyond the confines of the classroom

Singapore Polytechnic is recognised as the premier educational institution and lifelong learning resource centre in the applied health sciences. The current curriculum provides a sound foundation and opportunity to study contemporary topics in the biomedical sector. Students in the Biomedical Science program are given a choice of three specialisations: Medical Technology, Cardiac Technology and Biomedical Research. Medical Technology has a strong focus on testing, diagnosis, management and prevention of diseases. Cardiac Technology is offered in partnership with National Heart Centre, to train future technologists in providing technical services in the investigation, diagnosis and management of heart diseases, while Biomedical Research is an interdisciplinary program which offers students multi-faceted training across a broad spectrum of scientific and technology fields with emphasis on biological and medical research and development. The Diploma in Biomedical Science is recognised by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) UK. Students are eligible to apply for International Medical Laboratory Technician, MLT (ASCPi) certification offered by ASCP. Science that saves lives

"I definitely enjoyed and missed the times spent in SP, be it the mind-blowing lectures by enthusiastic DBS lecturers, or the fun-filled moments spent together with my friends. The course never failed to satisfy my passion for science as it offered me more than my expectations. Through the comprehensive practical sessions and challenging Final Year Project, I have grown to become more optimistic and resilient from the failures I have faced. Also, the fruitful Internship experience at A*STAR has widened my horizon in the biomedical field and allowed me to grow interest in cancer research."
