It was an event, not of the magnitude of the annual Graduation Ceremony, but significant enough to be held as it acknowledged, recognised, encouraged and honoured the academic achievements of close to 200 students who had excelled or made significant improvements in their first and second year of study in the last academic year AY1516.
The Annual Award Presentation, organised by the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SEEE), was held on 29 Jul 2016 at the SP Auditorium. Over 200 parents, lecturers and guests gathered on that Friday afternoon to witness the presentation of Commendation Letters to students who had achieved Good Academic Progress (GAP) awards, been placed on the Director’s Honour List (DHL), or won the various top prize, scholarship and book prize awards. It was a proud moment for their parents, and a time for their lecturers to cheer their deserving students on, to relive those moments when they had made significant impact in their lives, a time to give them a pat, an encouraging word, an approving smile.
To add to the joyous and celebratory mood of the event, 2 student groups, “The 3 Musketeers” and “Avaza” took turns to sing, croon and hum, one to the rhythmic strumming of the guitar strings while the other in vocal unison in acapella. In between, the student group, “Strictly Dance Zone,” danced and hip hopped to the beat of their music.
In addition to receiving their awards from Loh Yew Chiong, Director, EEE, and our esteemed industry partners, the students heard a sharing from Pavan Singh Gill, a top 2016 DEEE graduate and model student, on the lessons he learnt during his time in SP, which he summarised as follows: “Be unsatisfied and take action, if you fail, spend less time feeling sorry, move on and fear regret, because, you do not want to live a life of regrets.” Wise words, indeed, for the students to take heed.
Our congratulations to all the students who had received their awards at the presentation.
