POEMS Tertiary Challenge is an annual electronic trading competition where teams of undergraduates and graduate students can trade stocks, forex/ gold in a simulated trading environment on POEMS 2.0. The Tertiary Challenge is open to all students of Tertiary institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and ITEs.
The annual UOB Kay Hian (UOBKH) Scholarship presentation ceremony took place on the 24th Nov 2017.
Kearny (DBKF) and Yan Jie (DAC)are the winners of this year’s SOE-CHARLES & KEITH Best Interviewer Award, an accolade presented to students who have demonstrated impressive research methods and well-honed reporting skills in a programme that allows students to meet and interview entrepreneurs they admire.
On 20 October 2017, Singapore Polytechnic hosted the HR Symposium 2017, with the theme: “Emerging HR Trends in a Disruptive Economy”. This is an inaugural HR Symposium organised by the HR Sector Coordination Team (SCT), of which Singapore Polytechnic is the HR Sector Lead.
With the recruitment of the new sub- committees, the School of Business Club (SB Club) held a bonding event from 30 June to 1 July, 2017. About 30 students attended.
The afternoon of July 7, 2017, started off with a mild atmosphere at the registration counters outside MLT 12. The event kicked off with a Welcome Speech by Acting Director Tan Yen Yen. Next, Mr Lim Sim Seng, DBS Bank’s Group Executive - Singapore gave a speech on leadership, followed by a Q&A session, ending off with a piano ensemble and vocal performances.
On 14 November 2017, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) held a Polytechnic Open House to share with students the various career pathways as well as life at PwC.
The Deloitte-ICAEW Scholarship is awarded to the highest achievers at local polytechnics to support their academic goals and career ambitions.
The Learning Journey was an eye-opener for the students where they learnt about the marketing strategies of Yakult in Singapore and the region and also get to tour the state-of-the-art Factory.
On 14th July, SP Business School hosted its annual Meet the Parents session for Year One students.
Business School Leaders complete 4 days 3 Nights Leadership Camp
50 full-time students from DBKF and DAC (Year 1 – Year 3), together with 2 lecturers – Ms Sylvia Liong & Mr K.K. Tan, embarked on a 4-Day Study Trip to Indonesia, Jakarta from 19th – 22nd September 2017.
SP students won all top 3 prizes at the UOB Kay Hian Inter-Polytechnic Real-Time Investment and Trading Competition (uSPRINT) 2017, the first time that a single polytechnic won all the top prizes.
On 21st October 2017, the People’s Association (PA) organized the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) networking session for the Youth Executive Committees (YECs) and their partner institutions.
The Bifesta Marketing Challenge 2017 is an event held for final year DBA (marketing management Option students). They were given a $200,000 promotion budget to maintain Bifesta’s number 1 position and increase it's brand awareness.
In June 2017, a group of us from Singapore Polytechnic were part the 60 tertiary students selected for the UBS Youth Finance Academy 2017.
On 26 April 2017, the entire DHRMP cohort once again gathered at The Hall for the annual DHRMP Onboarding Event with the theme “The Masquerade Ball”.
In partnership with Singapore Polytechnic (Sector Coordinator and Lead for the Human Resource Sector), LinkedIn trained a class of 50 students from the 5 polytechnics on 13 June 2017 on LinkedIn employer branding initiatives and digital recruitment tools.
20 final-year students and 3 teaching staff from SP’s Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) visited the Housing Development Board on 17 May 2017. We were hosted by the Learning & Development team from the HDB who shared more about their business, learning framework and challenges.
Fuji Xerox’s Human Resources team hosted a group of 27 Year 2 students and 2 teaching staff from the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) on 19 July 2017 and generously shared more about their practices and values in the areas of generalist HR, Talent Acquisition, Compensation & Benefits and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Supply Chain Challenge (SCC) is an annual case competition organised by Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) and Singapore University of Social Services (SUSS). Team EZLife from DBA did SB proud by retaining the championship trophy for the second year running for the school. They walked away with a cash prize of $4,000.
On 15 Sep 2017, 17 SP students graduated from this program. SB Students under this program were attached to different Youth Executive Committees (YECs) to organize events such as charity drives, home visits, national dialogues, National Day celebrations etc.
It was a key milestone for over 40,000 HR professionals and service providers in Singapore when the HR Industry Manpower Plan (HRIMP) was launched on 10 July 2017 by Mrs Josephine Teo, 2nd Minister for Manpower and 2nd Minister for Foreign Affairs.
On 28 March 2017, eight Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) students assumed the role of Liaison Officers at the IE Singapore-LinkedIn-Singapore Polytechnic Partnership Launch at IE Singapore.
The Singapore HR Challenge 2017 was held on 29 July 2017. This year’s theme was “Preparing for the Millennial Workforce: Are Organisations Ready”. Our DHRMP alumni team won 2nd place in the HR competition. In addition, our alumni, Tan Zhao Xuan also won the “Outstanding Presenter Award”! This event was organised by the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI).
The Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award is a prestigious award by Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Joel Lee, our SP Accountancy Alumni who is pursuing the Bachelor of Accountancy in NTU, wishes to honour Ms Tan Yen Yen from Singapore Polytechnic DAC who had inspired him and contributed to his education.
On the 20 July 2017, SP Accountancy held our SP Accountancy Career Fair 2017 outside MLT12. We had 10 industry partners and about 200 DAC students from all 3 years of study attended the industry talk and career fair.
A second year Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology student, Sabrina Ng Shu Ling, was invited to attend the People’s Association Board Meeting Tea Reception hosted by the Prime Minister at the PA Auditorium on 20 April 2017.
The AAC is an annual competition organised by Nanyang Business School Auditing and Assurance Team (NAAT) which aims to develop interest in the auditing and accounting field and also to create awareness on the latest audit and accounting issues.
ICAEW South East Asia Business Challenge 2017: SP Accountancy awarded the Most Collaborative Team Award.
On the 5th of June 2017, our DTRM Year 2 cohort got the opportunity to volunteer for a trip to Park Hotel Farrer Park for a tour to have a peek into their hotel rooms and facilities available.
The MoU represented the strong endorsement by industry leader PwC Singapore of our SP ICAEW Professional Chartered Accountancy (PCA) course that could likely offer the accelerated pathway on ICAEW ACA structure leading toward the Chartered Accountant qualification for aspiring SP Accountancy graduates.
The 4D3N personal leadership camp from 5 to 8 June 2017 at Kota Tinggi, Malaysia, was attended by 50 students from ABE, SD and SB, accompanied by lecturers and facilitated by aspen3. The 7 habits were reinforced and applied via indoor and outdoor activities, workshops, treks and kayaking. Students had a wonderful time of learning and bonding, culminating in a campfire on the last night.
On 3 June 2017, our SP Accountancy students competed in the competition against other university and polytechnic teams. Our students emerged as 2nd runner up (behind SMU and SUSS). We were the only polytechnic that won an award during the competition.
Asian Attractions Expo is an event where companies promote or sell their products or designs for entertainment. This event is held annually in different country and this year, we are lucky to have it held in Singapore.

The annual Business School Freshmen Orientation Camp 2017 was held from 29th March to 31st of March.
The SP Convention Centre played host to the SB Achievers’ Function on 2 June 2017, an event to celebrate the academic and/or CCA achievements of SB students in AY2016/2017 as well as to honour some exceptional lecturers.
Over 50 industry guests were invited to the School of Business (SB) from Singapore Polytechnic to assess presentations by business students for their final year projects.
On 2 November 2016, the DHRMP Student Chapter organised the annual DHRMP Youth Day to allow all DHRMP students to bond and forge friendships with both their classmates and course mates.

On 12 March 2016, Saturday, a group of Diploma in Accountancy (DAC) students volunteered for a Kite Flying with Children Community Service Event at the Marina Barrage.
The Finals of the SP Business School – AIBI Marketing Plan Competition 2016 was held on 10 February 2016, 3.30 pm to 6 pm at MLT8. Close to 90 students and guests attended the event.
This event was attended by our Acting Minister for Education and Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, Mr Ong Ye Kung, as well as leading industry firms and representatives from across all tertiary institution.
I participated in the Singapore Management University (SMU) Tax Case Challenge 2015. This is an annual event organised by Tax Society @ SMU.
On the 25th of November 2015, Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC) came down to Singapore Polytechnic to give DAC Students a talk on a new professional pathway available for us.

On 11 November 2015, 28 DBA students from Year 1 to Year 3 went on a learning journey to the Hermès Leather Forever Exhibition to discover the heritage and brand story of Hermès.

Growing up as a student in Singapore, I’ve always felt more inclined to join design-related courses because of my appreciation for the arts and aesthetics.

The tour was a great learning platform for the Hospitality Mid-Management Internship Programme (HMMIP) as they will start their one-year internship in the new academic year. The Hospitality Mid-Management Internship Programme (HMMIP) provides a fast-tracked career path to selected DTRM students.
The 12-week internship programme for Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology, which began in December 2015, saw a joyful reunion of interns and their lecturers at a post-internship seminar on Monday 7 March 2016.
Not a single poly student had ever been certified by the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) while they are still studying as polytechnic students. But the three 19 year-old SP-DFI students proved the well-meaning doubters wrong.
As the academic year came to a close, there was one last event for the freshmen before they moved on to the second year of their journey in Singapore Polytechnic.
