A Blessed Chinese New Year

Scrambling for treasures without running from place to place -- this was precisely how a group of students, alumni and staff from the School of Chemical & Life Sciences brought cheers to elderly in an Ang Mo Kio district on 25 Jan 2014.

In partnership with Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO), the group celebrated Chinese New Year with the elderly.

Apart from the Treasure Hunt, the elderly also actively participated in Bingo and Guess the Price Right as well as sashayed to the rhythm of performances by the SP Guitarists, Vocal Talents and Er Hu.

They also sang along as the familiar Chinese New Year tunes were belted out. Meanwhile, volunteers actively engaged and assisted the elderly to win prizes at games.

After the whole gamut of performances and games, it was time for a satisfying lunch as the students, alumni and staff served the elderly with food and drinks. What a scrumptious buffet meal they had!

The day rounded off in generosity, when the elderly received goodie bags containing many essential items for their household and welfare. It is a true blessing to be able to put a smile on the elderly faces as we find a need and meet it; and possibly find a wound and heal it.
