We were from the SP Business School – Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP). Our team, Personer consisting 4 members: Claira Goh, Cindy Lee, P Sharmini and Shieromie Dias. The topic for the Human Resource Challenge 2016 is “Are Our Organisations Future-Ready?” It was an interesting theme to explore as we were able to look at the different aspects of the HR functions to determine the future-readiness of companies. In addition, it led us to discover the future outlook of the HR sector.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was to find a company to collaborate with for our case study. Besides that, we also had to complete the project within a stipulated time frame despite our conflicting schedules. Fortunately, we managed to overcome the problem with our dedication, diligence and cooperative spirit by compromising to one another’s schedules and priorities.
Although we eventually made it to the finals, we did not expect to emerge as the winning team. We were elated and relieved when the judges shared similar thoughts on the issues and recommendations brought up and were impressed with our work. Not to also mention, we are very thankful to all the DHRMP lecturers who supported and guided us throughout the journey.
Additionally, two of our team members (P Sharmini and Claira Goh) mentioned that winning the Best Presenter award has greatly encouraged and affirmed them of the potential for public speaking. It boosted their confidence to be able to engage with the audiences freely.
The experiences gained throughout the course of the competition were enriching and a great eye-opener. In particular, we learnt the vital roles of the HR department within a company. In addition, the HR Challenge allowed us to dive deeper into the potential growth of the HR sector in the upcoming years. With the further exploration of the specialisation on HR, our passions for the sector grew as well.
Finally, as cliché as it may sound, the biggest takeaway for us is that change is the only constant. Recommendations that seem feasible today may not be so in the years to come. Thence, ideas have to be constantly brainstormed to keep up with HR trends. With this said, we believe that the event is a great platform for students to challenge themselves and go beyond school walls to share their ideas. Ergo, we are grateful and appreciative of this opportunity given to us to participate in this competition.
A big thank you to SP-SB and to all the DHRMP lecturers!
