Full University Scholarship to join Hong Kong Polytechnic University for BA (Hons) in Design (Visual Communication) Programme

The first batch of students from Diploma in Digital Media (CG Effects Option) will graduate in 2010.  Among them is Ms Lam Oi Keat who has won a full 3-year scholarship to study BA (Hons) in Design (Visual Communication) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The scholarship is awarded by Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Among the offers from University of Brighton, UK, Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts, UK and Nanyang Technological University, Ms Lam finally chose Hong Kong Polytechnic University because they offer a degree programme closest to the industry Ms Lam wants to join.

Oi Keat graduates among the top 5% from the Diploma in Digital with an impressive CCA record and was nominated for Model Student Award.

Oi Keat cheerfully shared about her dreams to be a recognized graphic designer in the advertising-related industry. Hence, she wanted to experience "everything" to prepare herself for this challenging career. She planned her goals and has been working systematically towards it. Besides excelling in her course work, she participated in various competitions and has won several prizes. She also volunteered to work on external projects and did freelance work throughout the past three years. She has worked with companies such as Peach Blossom Media, MyCross and Oak3 Films. She has maintained a good relationship with them even though she is back in school.

Despite the busy schedule and work, Oi Keat still managed to find time to help the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT) to design posters, and participated in creating the appreciation video for NDP2008. She also has time to enjoy her favourite sports such as cycling, soccer, rock climbing and performed in the Chinese Orchestra! We asked her how she managed to keep herself going without being burnt out. She offered this quote, "What can be envisioned within, can be made for others to witness in time".

True enough, we could see her thoughts and feelings in many of her competition pieces. An example is her work "Drowning Bear" which won the Gold Award in the "Climate Cool in the Urban Jungle’ Digital Art Competition 2008 organised by the British council. The picture showed a drowning Polar bear form by the smoke from the factories and later on forming a mountain. She hoped that people will be encouraged to save the world before it is too late; for our own good, and also the next generation.

Gold Award

Oi Keat enjoyed every moment of her life in SP. The memorable times were spent with a group of close friends in SP, especially those in the same course. We wish her the very best in all her future endeavours.
