DMIT Fiesta! 2010

27 Oct 2010
Training for the workshop “Gamenovator: Make Your Own Game!” began a month ago to familiarise the instructor-to-be in the GameSalad software used for the workshop. It was the first time that I am using the software hence I was afraid that I could not do my part well. After practising a few times on my own, I felt more confident and ready to conduct the workshop.
I was involved as the main student instructor. Assisting me was Jonathan. I started the workshop explaining the game theory with the participants. The other student instructors were given a group of 4 particpants each. They were to guide the participants as I teach.Towards the end of the workshop, I felt that I had taught them enough to implement the remaining features on their own if they wanted.

Besides being a student instructor, I am also a STAR Presenter, a student ambassador of DMIT. As a STAR Presenter, I conduct school tours for the secondary school students. Hence, after the workshop, I assisted in conducting school tour for the Music Fiesta participants with my partner Kok Pin, another STAR Presenter. We toured the Animation Studio and the Game Development Lab and gave out some snacks to the participants. The participants were enthralled and amazed by the Xboxes that were placed in the Game Development Lab They were eager to try out the game Impetus, developed by our seniors from the Diploma in Infocomm Technology (Game Development Option).

What is a Fiesta without a delicious spread of food and snacks! All the student participants were treated to their all-time favourite snacks: candy floss and popcorn.  At the end of the day, everyone went back happy with what they have learnt, and more importantly, with the friendship bonds formed in DMIT, Singapore Polytechnic.
