The Youth Entrepreneurs Competition aims to instill lateral thinking in our young and to turn challenges into opportunities. This is in line with the National Education theme that “No One Owes Singapore A Living”. Our SP team – known as Space, which turns tiny and often forgotten “bits” into creative hand-made accessories such as keychain, fridge magnets, and even iconic characters on a photo frame emerged as “Best in Digital Marketing & Social Media” and the 1st Runner Up of the competition.
The Competition is not simply a business competition for young people. The Singapore Discovery Centre strongly feels that youth entrepreneurship provides a tremendous opportunity to reconnect youth with society and to assist them to become self-reliant and a contributing member of society. It attempts to balance the business achievements of each team with their connectedness to the society at large through their innovative use of digital marketing and social media. It is not sufficient just to create an exciting product or services, team members must be able to demonstrate how they have used digital marketing and social media as a platform in generating interest and driving up sales for their products or services.
Apart from looking for evidence of innovation and exploitation of new ideas in the teams’ business concept, the judges looked at the teams’ total sales figures and the presentation of their ideas and display booths.
The winning team donated their sales proceeds of $1,538.70 including $750 of Seed Funds that they have received as a Finalist, through the Singapore Discovery Centre to charities.
