As part of Go Serve week from September 10 to 14, 30 staff volunteers participated in the community project by helping to cook, pack and distribute over 1000 packages of food at the Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen. They started as early as 7.15 am to cut, peal, wash and cook the food, packaged them into Styrofoam boxes and then distributed them to various collection points in the island.
On being able to work with colleagues, Andrew Low said: “It was fun and engaging outside the normal office environment. In an informal way, we came together to do something for the benefit of the less fortunate and at the same time get to know a little bit more of my fellow colleagues”
Michelle Lee, one of the staff volunteer said: “It was a fun and gratifying experience. Thanks to the staff social committee for organizing this event where we can help others and give back to the community”.
“Our staff were awesome in their various tasks. We really bonded as the day progressed and at the end of the day even though we were tired out, many of us did not mind waking up early and missing our breakfast” recalled Ms Audrey Lai, another staff volunteer. “It is a wonderful and satisfying experience being able to contribute to others.”
Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen is a 100% volunteer-based non-profit organization whose mission is to work with the underprivileged, the needy, and other marginalized members of society, and where relevant, to assist and guide them towards rehabilitating and reinstating themselves as useful citizens of society. A major part of their work is conducted through the operation of their soup kitchens. Currently, they serve about 75,000 meals per month. Food are packed in the kitchens and delivered to various distribution points across Singapore. Distribution points include Bukit Ho Swee, Havelock Road, Hougang, Serangoon Road, Bendemeer, Macpherson and Boon Lay.”
