BA0217 Fundamentals of Economics
Provides students with an overview of micro and macro economic concepts and issues. Topics include the theories of consumption, investment, inflation, employment, and economic growth.
BA0312 Principles of Marketing
Introduces students to basic marketing principles and concepts. The topics that will be covered include an overview of the marketing process, an appreciation of the marketing environment, an understanding of consumer behaviour, target market selection, as well as the management of the marketing mix elements that include the 4P's namely: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
ET0083 Structured Programming
Teaches students to write programs in a structured way. It emphasizes good programming techniques and covers topics on simple data types, input/output, selection control and loop-constructs, functions and basic data structures such as arrays.
ET0085 Computer-Aided Design & Drafting
Equips students with the knowledge of drawing office practice, ISO drawing standards and acquiring of drawing skills using latest AutoCAD software. It aims to teach students the ability to read and produce good technical sketches and projection drawings as a form of engineering communication. The module shall cover basic 2D drawings, isometrics and orthogonal projections, and the use of workstation based CAD/CAM software for computer aided drafting.
ET1003 Digital Electronics 1
Introduces students to the knowledge, understanding and design techniques necessary, to enable them to design simple combinational circuits using commercial SSI and MSI integrated circuits. Additional topics covered include introduction to simple sequential logic circuits such as flip-flops and mono-stables.
ET1005 Principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering 1
Covers the fundamental concepts of electricity. Basic laws and theorems which govern the operation of electrical circuitry are explained with illustrations. Understanding and application of electrical phenomena are further enhanced using circuit simulation on worked examples and tutorial problems and via hands-on sessions. Topics covered include scientific notation, engineering notation, metric prefixes, basic elements of an electrical circuit, definitions of energy and power, power sources, measuring instruments, DC and AC concepts, simple series and parallel networks, electromagnetism, inductor, inductance, transformers, Kirchhoff Voltage and Current Laws, Current and Voltage Divider Rules.
ET1215 Engineering Design and Business Project I
Imparts the concepts and understanding of the human factors that focuses on how people interact with tasks, machines, computers, and the environment with the consideration that humans have limitations and capabilities. Student will learn how these can affect the design of processes and consumer and industrial products in the reduction of human errors for improved safety. Upon completion of this module, students should be able to apply these concepts and techniques to help the product development team improve their product design to enhance user experience and satisfaction. They will also develop a marketing plan for their client based-product prototype they have developed.
ET1407 Introduction to Engineering
This is an interdisciplinary hands-on module for students to put engineering theory into practice early in their course by working in small groups to understand, devise & build engineering projects taking inspiration from commercial examples, such as home appliances. Students will be encouraged to explore the strengths and weaknesses of current designs. The students will also employ electrical engineering fundamentals along with mechanical knowledge taught in a companion module as necessary to design and fabricate interesting and challenging projects. The process will expose students to a range of generic process skills such as creative and critical thinking, teamwork and communication.
LC8001 General Education 1
Aims to equip students with critical reasoning skills and provide them with opportunities to practise critical thinking through the exploration of contemporary social issues. It also provides a platform for students to learn the basics of arguments through the formal argumentation structure.
LC8002 General Education 2
Aims to equip students with the skills to critically analyse the elements of persuasion in narratives used in a variety of contexts to appreciate the power of storytelling in our daily life. Students will also explore the history of discrimination in societies and craft their responses through their own narrative.
ME0101 Mechanics I
Introduces the basic concepts of engineering mechanics, namely units and dimensions, equilibrium conditions, friction, kinematics and Newton’s laws of motion.
ME0401 Thermofluids I
Introduces the fundamentals of thermodynamics, namely heat, work, perfect gas laws and the 1st law of thermodynamics. Use of steam tables, basics of pressure and flow rate in fluids, and the mass conservation law are also covered.
MS4120 Basic Mathematics
Equip students with the necessary mathematical knowledge and skills to handle problems encountered in their course of study. Topics include algebra, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions. Binomial theorem, complex numbers, differentiation of algebraic and trigonometric functions and integration of algebraic function are included. It also serves as a foundation for further work in mathematics in subsequent modules.
MS4121 Engineering Mathematics I
Equip students with the necessary mathematical knowledge and skills to solve problems encountered in their course of studies. It also serves as a foundation for more advanced mathematics in the second year. Topics include trigonometry, determinants, matrices , complex numbers and calculus.
SP101A Education and Career Guidance 1
A compulsory module for all first year students, ECG 1 aims to develop an understanding of personal interests, strengths, values and life goals. With greater knowledge and understanding of self, planning and decision making in choosing a future career can be better developed. Some topics covered in ECG 1 include ‘Defining My SP Life’, ‘Personal Branding’, ‘Discovering My Interests’, ‘Planning for Success – My Personal Action Plan’ and more.

Introduces students to the process of starting a new venture. It provides students with a basic understanding of the financial, operational and marketing issues involved in setting up and managing a small business.
BA0313 Essentials of Financial Management
Provides students with an understanding of basic accounting and financial concepts essential in understanding and interpreting financial statements and reports. In addition, students will be exposed to basic costing concepts and financial techniques used to analyse and evaluate capital investment projects.
BA0314 Marketing Intelligence
Provides students with a working knowledge of the research techniques used in marketing research. Topics dealt with include research systems and activities, research designs, data collection methods, data analysis, fieldwork operations and preparation of research reports.
BA9024 Professional Selling
At the end of the course, students will be able to: (a) Appreciate the important role of personal selling in an economy. (b) Apply with understanding the basic principles, various techniques and process of personal and relationship selling.
ET0529 Mobile Applications Development
Provides students with the skills and knowledge to develop and implement games or applications that can run on mobile phones. Students will be introduced to open-source software tools available for programme development, key concepts in mobile programming, user-interface classes, sensors and local data storage. By the end of the module, students should be able to conceptualise and complete a mobile game or application.
ET1006 Principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering 2
Extends the basic concepts onto other electrical and electronic devices. Topics covered include: Capacitor, capacitance, Superposition theorem, semiconductor physics, semiconductor devices such as diodes, special diodes and bipolar transistors, transducers such as thermistors, and application of operational amplifiers. Students will participate in PBIL activity to exhibit team learning. Upon completion, this module consolidates students foundation of the electrical and electronic engineering.
ET1216 Engineering Design and Business Project II
This module introduces the use of Microcontrollers for applications. Students are taught how a microcontroller works, the programming and use of the microcontroller for applications. In addition, the student will learn basic analogue and digital support circuitry, sensors and actuators/displays required for a microcontroller based application. This module allows students to develop a project conceived around a microcontroller system with sensors and output devices. Students will generate more innovative product ideas and explore their feasibility and demonstrate how they will sell their product.
ET1217 Engineering Project for Entrepreneurs
In this module, the students form teams to apply design thinking skills to solve an engineering or real life problem. They will also propose a business venture for their solution. Students will learn to manage their project using relevant project management tools. The module also provides students with the knowledge of preparing feasibility and marketing plan for the new venture and an opportunity to integrate the knowledge and skills in business and engineering acquired during their course of study.
LC0355 Communicating for Project (Proposal) Effectiveness
Aims to equip students with the skills to articulate and communicate ideas persuasively, and to work effectively in teams. They will be taught to pitch ideas or concepts and to write proposals to an intended audience.
LC8003 Social Innovation Project
Aims to equip students with the Design Thinking mindset, methods and tools to conceptualise innovative solutions for real life problems. Students will explore a social cause, go through the practical rigour of the Design Thinking process and apply suitable tools to fulfil the objectives of the project. Students will also be exposed to trends and issues related to themes, such as Healthcare, Active Ageing, Environment, and Social Integration. In the process, they will develop a better understanding of themselves and the world, as well as the positive impact they can make.
LC8004 General Education 3
Aims to enhance students’ knowledge and appreciation of a broad range of social, political and economic issues. Students will learn about the importance and relevance of information literacy skills as well as develop their ability to assess the validity and reliability of information from different sources, consider diverse perspectives, and put forward a convincing point of view.
ME0104 Mechanical Engineering Systems
This module is a continuation of Mechanics I and Thermofluids I. It introduces to students the applications from basic ideas in solid mechanics to simple engineering problems, as well as fundamentals of machine components, air compressors and vapour cycles.
MS4205 Engineering Mathematics II (A)
This module is designed to provide students with further knowledge in mathematics and analytical skills to solve engineering problems encountered in their studies. Among the topics covered are Laplace transforms and statistics.
MS4206 Engineering Mathematics II (B)
Provides students with further knowledge in mathematics and analytical skills to solve engineering problems encountered in their studies. Among the topics covered are methods of integration, infinite series, Fourier series, differential equations and vector algebra.
SP201A Education and Career Guidance 2
ECG 2 is taken by all second year students. This module aims to develop professional skills necessary to seek and secure work. It also guides the students on how to discover and develop skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for work effectiveness and changes related to work. Topics covered in this module include ‘Job Search and Market Trends’, ‘Discovering Your Unique Selling Point’, ‘Resilience’, ‘Work Place Values’ and more.

Discusses the concept of entrepreneurship and the characteristics of small enterprises. Students will also learn the business strategies used by small enterprises to create a sustainable competitive advantage in the dynamic business environment.
ET0053 Circuit Theory and Analysis
Provides students with an understanding of circuit theory, which includes mesh analysis, nodal analysis, circuit theorems and applications. The students will also be introduced to three-phase circuits, covering three-phase supply and loads. This module provides the basic foundation leading to final year subjects.
IC4001 Internship Programme
The Internship Programme aims to provide students with an authentic on-the-job work experience in an engineering, or technology-enabled business field, to prepare them to be truly work-ready. Students will also be able to establish an industry network and learn from the experience of working professionals. Students will undergo a structured learning programme, including attending safety induction and participating in the industry projects as part of their internship. The intent of the programme is to enable students to apply and enhance their range of technical skills, hone their knowledge in areas such as professional ethics, role and responsibility of engineers, and understand the business environment in which companies are situated – as advocated by the CDIO syllabus. By the end of the programme, students will have a greater insight into what industry expects of employees, as well as opportunities to develop technical workplace competencies and other important professional skills.
LC0357 Communicating for Professional Effectiveness
Aims to equip students with the essential communication and interpersonal skills necessary for work and the pursuit of further studies.
ME0801 Industrial Engineering
Provides knowledge and skills in the basics of industrial engineering. Topics include work study, enterprise resource planning, scheduling and ergonomics. Concepts and techniques are also taught through handson practical sessions.

BA2203 Principles of New Media Marketing
This module aims to identify the important new media trends and understand how companies are responding to the rapidly evolving digital world of user generated content, consumer communities and other new forms of communications such as social networking and tagging.
BA2213 Investment Analysis
An enhancement on Essentials of Financial Management, Investment Analysis seeks to further evaluate various investment products such as stocks and bonds valuations whilst appraising using various performance measurements. At the same time, students will be taught basic ways of looking at risk (e.g. interest rate risk).
ET1115 Energy Management & Auditing
This module aims is to impart participants with the knowledge of various levels of Energy Audit, perform energy performance analysis, prepare and provide recommendation and audit report. Students will be introduced to the Energy Market within Singapore and the basic concepts of Energy Management System (ISO 50001 EnMS). The fundamental knowledge to carry out Energy Economic analysis and cost prediction for energy saving assessment and application of Measurement and Verifications (M&V) will be shared through various case studies &/or application examples.
ET1205 Wireless Technology Applications
Students will acquire knowledge of commonly used wireless technology that enhances or improves our daily life. They will learn the basic features and use of wireless technology such as RFID, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WiMAX, ZigBee and Mobile technologies such as 3G and 3.5G. Applications related but not limited to entertainment, leisure activities, sport for individual and community users as well as the user interface and ergonomic aspect will be considered.
ME0205 Product Design & Realisation
Aims to equip students with a range of skills and techniques for creative product design and realisation. Students are taught foundation knowledge in product design such as Design Thinking, principles of 3D Design and how to use various computer tools to build up their skills in product visualisation. Students will also learn to present their designs in appropriate format using advanced Photoshop techniques.
ME0601 Instrumentation & Control
Provides fundamental knowledge of instrumentation, control theory and practical applications relevant to the local industries, including the installation and calibration of control instrumentation.

Advanced Mathematics Modules

The Advanced Mathematics Modules are aimed at preparing students for further studies in Engineering. Students who perform well academically and have higher aptitudes in mathematics will be given the opportunity to take up the three Advanced Mathematics Modules. The training provided will help students to build a solid foundation in mathematics and develop analytical, logical thinking and problem solving skills. Students who complete the three Advanced Mathematics Modules may receive module exemptions from local universities when they pursue engineering degrees.

Topics include mathematical induction, functions and their graphs, limits and continuity of functions, differentiation, integration and its geometrical applications, polar coordinates and parametric equations, indeterminate forms, improper integrals and complex numbers.
MS802M Advanced Mathematics 2
Provides students with further knowledge in calculus and linear algebra essential for studies in engineering courses at the university level. Topics in the module include multiple integrals, partial derivatives and their geometric significance and applications, sequences, infinite series and power series, matrices, determinants, systems of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
MS803M Advanced Mathematics 3
Equips students with a basic knowledge of vectors and differential equations considered essential for studies in engineering courses at the university level. Topics include operations on vectors, lines and planes in space and vector-valued functions, ordinary differential equations (1st order & 2nd order), Laplace transforms & its applications in initial value problems and Fourier Series.
