What is this course about?
This is a web-based self-learning course for anyone wanting to know about marine engineering. Those intending to become sea-going marine engineers must meet the requirements of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore before taking their oral examinations.
All interested in knowing more about marine engineering and especially for those intending to take the CoC5 oral examinations.
Assumed Skills and Knowledge
1. A basic high school qualification with a proficiency in the English Language.
2. A degree in Mechanical Engineering from an approved university by MPA
Or a Diploma in Marine Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic.
3. Completed a Graduate Mechanical Engineering conversion course recognised by MPA
4. Completed at least 6 months sea time as a cadet or trainee junior engineer
Participant must obtain the ‘Letter of Eligibility’ (LOE) from ‘Maritime and Port Authority Singapore’ (MPA) before the CoC5 online course. This is an on-line application which may be submitted via MPA Singapore website, www.mpa.gov.sg/eservices
The course accords with the IMO requirements for marine engineers wishing to sit the CoC5 oral examinations.
Mode of Assessment
The course includes self tests for students to assess their progresses.
Students will be entitled to sit for the CoC5 oral examinations provided they meet the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore requirements regarding the Letter of Eligibility and the required sea-service on ocean-going ships of designated ship power capacity.
i) Fill up the electronic form.
ii) Once completed, click on the 'Submit' button.
iii) You will receive online acknowledgement that you have successfully submitted the registration.
iv) Singapore Polytechnic will then register and enrol upon payment of the fees.
v) User ID and password will be issued in 7 working days

a) For e-payment using Visa/Master cards and Internet Banking, please click on the ‘Make e-Payment’ button on the acknowledgement page to proceed.

c) Please make cheques payable to “Singapore Polytechnic”. Please cross the cheque and write the Registration Reference ID, Applicant Name and NRIC/FIN number on the back of the cheque. Mail the cheque to:

Please note that an administrative charge of $15 will be imposed for any returned cheques from the bank or financial institution.
2. All successful applicants will be notified with a letter of confirmation via email.
3. Withdrawal and Deferment
Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy, Singapore Polytechnic via email accordingly:

For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:
- 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
- Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
- On or after date of commencement - No refund
- There will be no refund or transfer of course once the account has been created.
The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.
The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
