Environmental Infection Control and Management in Non-Hospital Facilities

Course objective

The programme on Environmental Infection Control and Management in Non-Hospital Facilities aims to provide an overview of the infection control measures and management means in non-hospital facilities. The programme embraces the overarching theme of environmental infection control as it contextualizes the principles of personal protective equipment and disinfection with the understanding of Ebola Virus Disease.  The four learning objectives are:

  1. Understand Ebola Viral Disease
  2. Apply Principles of Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Procedures
  3. Demonstrate familiarisation in the donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment
  4. Understand Principles of Disinfection


Course outline

Day 1

1. Overview of infectious diseases and Personal Protective Equipment

2. Understanding Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and the manner it spreads

  • What is Ebola?
  • Effects & Transmission
  • Environmental contamination & Risk Management
  • Measures & Containment and Infection Control

3. Principles of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) operations.

4. Hand hygiene, donning and doffing practices

Day 2

5. Ebola cleaning and decontamination in non-hospital settings

6. Demonstration on Ebola Cleaning and Decontamination/Disinfection

Funding Incentives

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG)
Type of Funding: Training Grant and Absentee Payroll Only
Support level: CAT B, Certifiable (Non-WSQ), External, PME (CF with AP), Eligible for MCES, SME, WTS

Eligibility Criteria:
- Singaporeans & SPRs
- Achieve at least 75% attendance in the course
- Complete and pass all required assessments within 1 month after course ends

This course is funded on a full course fee mode. This means that upfront payment of full course fee (including GST) is to be made to Singapore Polytechnic upon receiving our Confirmation Email and invoice, and SSG will reimburse the training grant (course fee support and absentee payroll) to the companies after the course ends.

Companies are to apply for the above mentioned funding via SkillsConnect upon receiving our Confirmation Email and 30 days before the course commencement date and later process their claims as soon as the course has ended so that they can to receive the reimbursements sooner.

SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)
With effect from January 2016, Singaporeans aged 25 years and above who received their SkillsFuture Credit account activation letter will be eligible for an initial credit of $500 which can be used to pay for course fees for a range of eligible skills-related courses. The credits can be used on top of existing course fee subsidies/funding.

This is only applicable for self-sponsored applicants. Application via SkillsFuture Portal can only be made starting from 60 days before the course commencement date.


Minimum Entry Requirements


Participants need to be physically fit to put on and remove Personal Protective Equipment, including the fit for a N95 respirator.

Participants upon achieving 75% attendance rate and passing all the prescribed assessments will be awarded the Certificate of Performance.

3. Withdrawal and Deferment

Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy, Singapore Polytechnic via email accordingly:

For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:


  • 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
  • Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
  • On or after date of commencement - No refund


  • There will be no refund or transfer of course once the account has been created.

The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.

The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.

The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
