The program is self-paced, and spending an hour or two everyday would be ideal to complete the program in one year. There is a 2-year time limit to complete the program. Minimum period to advance to Phase II is 4 months.
What is this course about?
This program is designed for local and international deck personnel aspiring to become Junior Deck Officers. By doing this course, the trainee can reduce in-campus time to 8 weeks preparatory course. (Otherwise the trainee will have to complete 15 weeks in-campus course).
On successful completion of the CoC3 on-line, Phase 1 (e-learning) course , the trainees will need to enroll for 8 weeks CoC3 online course, Phase 2 (in-campus) course.
The e-Learning program allows the trainees to work at their own pace right from the comfort of their home.

Assumed Skills and Knowledge
A trainee must fulfill all the following requirements:
- A basic high school qualification with a proficiency in English language
- Sea-time must be completed on the ships of more than 3000 GT engaged in International voyages
- Must have completed at least 18 months of sea time in Deck department ( as A/B, O/S or Deck cadet only)
Once you have enrolled, you will receive an email notifying you of your login details. Use your login details to log into the site. Click on the ‘myLearning’ tab in the home page to access your courses.

- General Ship Knowledge
- Coastal Navigation
Mode of Assessment
Each course has a ‘Practice Test’ in the assessment section. On completion of the course, you can take this sample test to refresh your learning, and to prepare for your final assessment. This will help you assess your understanding of the course. On submission of the test, you will receive a complete feedback for the same. This test does not have any pass percentage.
To complete the program successfully, the trainee has to take a scheduled test for each course. You have to score at least 70% in order to pass a test. Each test consists of ‘multiple choice questions’, each question has to be answered within two minutes.
During the course, whenever an assessment is conducted, you will be notified about the assessment statistics via email.
You have a maximum of three attempts to pass the final tests, failing which you have to re-apply for the test through your e-mentor, by paying an examination fee of $150 SGD.
On successful completing the program, a program completion certificate will be issued jointly by SMA and TMS. Certificates will not be issued for individual courses.

Withdrawal and Deferment
Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy, Singapore Polytechnic via email accordingly:

For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:
- 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
- Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
- On or after date of commencement - No refund
- There will be no refund or transfer of course once the account has been created.
The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
