Breaking Waves: Singapore Maritime Academy Sets Sail with Industry-Leading Methanol Fuel Handling Training Courses

15 Apr 2024

In a pioneering move, Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) has embarked on a ground-breaking journey by introducing the region's first-ever Training for Handling of Methanol as Fuel for Maritime Personnel Course approved by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on 6 March 2024. This remarkable milestone comes on the heels of Singapore's historic Methanol Bunkering Operation on 27 July 2023, which saw a Maersk’s container vessel – the world’s first container vessel powered with methanol fuel, successfully refuelled with approximately 300 metric tonnes of bio-methanol via Hong Lam Marine’s Singapore-registered tanker, MT Agility at the Raffles Reserved Anchorage in Singapore.
