1980

JSIST was established in December 1980, by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) as a cooperation project between Singapore and Japanese Governments.

1980 - 1985

Phase 1 Project

An agreement is signed between the Governments of Singapore and Japan. The Governments of Japan provided technical assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for the planning, establishment and operation of the Institute via a resident team of Japanese software experts. This first agreement lasted 5 years.

The aim of the Institute was to train IT professionals to fulfill the computer services industry needs. Donations of hardware and software amounting to over S$8 million were made to the Institute, and 24 training fellowships Japan were provided for local lecturers.

1982

Diploma in Programming and Systems Analysis was launched.

1986 - 1991

Phase 2 Project

Phase 1 project was so successful that a second agreement lasting another 5 years, was signed in January 1986. A second group of Japanese IT experts were attached to the Institute. Another 22 training fellowships to Japan were provided for local lecturers.

New hardware and software donations amounting to more than S$7 million were made.

1987

MITI Accreditation for Diploma in Programming and Systems Analysis.

Under the second phase, the Advanced Diploma in Software Engineering was introduced to allow existing JSIST Diploma holders and other experienced IT professionals to further upgrade themselves.

JSIST was transferred to SP.

1989

Postgraduate Diploma in Systems Analysis was introduced.

1990

Third Country Training Programme (TCTP)/RTP/JSPP 21). Started in 1989 (FY), actual conducting of course held in first quarter of 1990.

1992

Postgraduate Diploma in Systems Analysis was renamed as Postgraduate Diploma in Systems Analysis and Design.

1993

Diploma in Programming & Systems Analysis was renamed as Diploma in Computer Information Systems.

1996

Diploma in Multimedia Software Engineering was introduced.

1997

Advanced Diploma in Multimedia Development was introduced.

JSIST was fully integrated into SP, and it was renamed as Department of Software Technology (DST).

1999

Diploma in Computer Information Systems was renamed as Diploma in IT.

2001

Change of name from DST (JSIST) to School of Info-Communications Technology.

Diploma in Multimedia Software Engineering was renamed as Diploma in Multimedia Technology.

Diploma in Business IT was jointly introduced with School of Business.

Diploma in Information and Communication Technology was jointly introduced with School of EEE.

IT Enrichment Workshops were introduced.

Central Academy of Information Technology (CAIT) Accreditation for Diploma in IT (with the dissolution of CAIT, this accreditation is now invalid.)

2002

AMD International First Intake in Jan 2002.

Specialist Diploma in E-Commerce Technology was introduced.

2003

Specialist Diploma in Web Development Technology was introduced.

2005

Change of name from School of Info-Communications Technology (ICT) to School of Media and Info-Communications Technology (SMIT).

Diploma in Music and Audio Technology was launched.

Specialist Diploma in Digital Media Creation was launched.

2006

Diploma in Infocomm Security Management was launched.

Diploma in Multimedia Technology was renamed as Diploma in Digital Media.

2008

In April 2008, change of name from School of Media and Info-Communications Technology (SMIT) to School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT).

2010

Diploma in Digital Animation and Diploma in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics were introduced.

2011

Diploma in Digital Media was re-launched as Diploma in Interactive Media.

2013

Specialist Diploma in Mobile Apps Development was launched.

Diploma (Conversion) in Digital Media Creation was launched.

2015

Specialist Diploma in Cyber Security Management was launched.

2016

Specialist Diploma in Cyber Security (under Earn and Learn Programme) was launched.

2017Specialist Diploma in Data Science was launched.
2018

In Oct 2018, change of name from School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT) to School of Computing (SoC).

Common ICT Programme was launched.

Diploma in Infocomm and Digital Media (Cyber Security) was launched.

2019In Oct 2019, Diploma in Applied AI and Analytics was launched.
2021

Specialist Diploma in Immersive Simulation and Specialist Diploma in Data Protection and AI Governance were launched.

2023Diploma in Infocomm Security Management renamed as Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics.
