Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good afternoon.
It gives me great pleasure to be here today at the 56th Singapore Polytechnic Graduation Ceremony. I applaud all graduands and award winners from the School of Chemical & Life Sciences (CLS) on your achievements.
Integrity – be true to yourself
I hope you leave this course inspired. What you graduate with gives you the power to shape our collective future and solve some of the biggest challenges facing our world today

Integrity – be true to your profession
As an Engineer, I am proud of my profession. In the UK, we have the opportunity to become Chartered Engineers, although this is voluntary. In Canada where I worked for four years, it was a requirement. Part of that process involves passing an ethics exam and committing to practise Engineering responsibly, irrespective of what your company may direct you – I liked that.

Helping to address environmental challenges is actually bigger than just being true to our professions, it is actually about being true to society.

As you graduate, I urge you to make the most of your chosen studies and contribute to the world’s biggest challenges – energy, sustainability, aging population – but above all, do it with regard to safety and environmental responsibility.
I extend my heartiest congratulations on the successful completion of your studies at Singapore Polytechnic and wish each of you success in your career and further studies.
