SP students ''adopt'' Dover Crescent blocks to help residents cultivate eco-friendly and energy-saving habits

Students from SP have "adopted" four housing blocks in Dover Crescent near their campus, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations. They have developed innovative solutions such as smart refrigerators and gardening starter kits to help residents cultivate eco-friendly and energy-saving habits. In support of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Education and Foreign Affairs Dr Maliki Osman announced the "Adopt a Block" initiative in March during the Committee of Supply debate. Under this initiative, students from polytechnics and ITE will "adopt" housing blocks near their schools and engage residents through visits and workshops to foster good habits in water and energy conservation, environmental protection, and greening. To align with the "Adopt a Block" initiative, SP is encouraging students to brainstorm and innovate under three sustainability themes—environmental protection, zero waste, and the green economy—through its campus sustainability innovation projects. On 24 July, 24 groups comprising 144 students shared their research outcomes and preliminary models with nearly 40 residents of Dover Crescent at the Experience exhibition held at Singapore Polytechnic. SP's Deputy Senior Director of Common Core Cluster, Lim Lee Yee (林丽仪), said in the interview, “In addition to fostering community awareness among students through home visits, we also ensure that each group consists of members from different faculties, leading to more comprehensive and feasible outcomes.”
