My journey at Singapore Polytechnic (SP) began with the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP), which provided a valuable pathway for gaining knowledge and insights during my first year. This experience eased my transition into Mechanical Engineering.

During my internship at A*STAR, I focused on defect detection in additive manufacturing and mastered new software and principles. Contributing as the first author on a resulting paper became my proudest achievement and solidified my aspiration to pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering.

I am grateful for Mr. Herry, a lecturer with whom I felt comfortable and who continued to support me even after Year 1. His guidance made my time at SP both enjoyable and enriching.

“Embrace your journey, for every step shapes your future.”

Although I was diagnosed with dyslexia, which affected my ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, I was determined to break the stigma. I enrolled in the Business Administration course in SP because the exposure-based learning appealed to me.

SP offers various opportunities to integrate design thinking with business which was crucial for my career. The supportive network here also helped me build a strong portfolio and navigate the challenges of business studies.

Upon graduating from SP, I leveraged SP resources such as the SP Entrepreneurship Centre (SPiNOFF) to develop and build my business. I am grateful for SP for providing the opportunities to eventually work with big brands such as Decathlon to further my dreams of giving new life to textile waste and transform them into new fashionable apparel.

At SP, I immersed myself in a structured curriculum that included diverse projects, allowing me to explore various facets of interior design. Beyond academics, I embraced leadership opportunities that pushed me out of my comfort zone, making SP a playground for growth.

Joining the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore (SIDS) Student Chapter was another pivotal step in my journey. Working on the publicity committee enabled me to connect with industry professionals and gain invaluable insights into the dynamic world of design.

SP also facilitated my internship, which further expanded my horizons as I ventured into experiential design, working on projects like museum planning and furniture exhibitions. I now aspire to become an Experiential Designer, creating immersive experiences that engage and inspire.

“Design is not just what it looks like; it’s how it makes you feel.”

SP ignited my passion for medicine, allowing me to define my “possible” and pursue my dreams without any regret. SP provided me with invaluable experiences and the skills necessary for my career as an Accident & Emergency (A&E) doctor. The diverse projects, like the "Health Mapping Exercise", where we conducted door-to-door health screening services for low income residents living in rental flats, sharpened my leadership abilities and instilled a deep sense of community service in me.

With the various projects, activities, and CCAs that I was involved in, I had the opportunity to work and befriend many students from other faculties outside of CLS. This is highly valuable, versus a JC environment, as it directly translates to real-life work environment where we have to work with various walks of life.

Many lecturers from SP have been instrumental in guiding me in my younger days, and I owe a huge part of my success to them. Special mention to Dr Adrian Yeo and Mdm Mah Mon Moey. Especially Mdm Mah, who not only played the role of a lecturer, but at times also provided motherly care and advice to me.

“Rather than wasting your time being stressed over making the right decision, go make the decision right.”
