Redux is working with SP to process crushed glass into recyclable construction materials. The company is also exploring solutions with another partner to make use of silicon- and silver-containing glass fragments. Dr Li Xiaodong, Manager of the Advanced Materials Technology Centre at SP, explained that to reuse crushed glass, it must first be melted at high temperatures and then made into small particles containing many micropores. These particles can replace sand and gravel in concrete mixes for non-load bearing building materials, providing sound-insulation and heat-insulation properties. He said, “We plan to achieve mass production in about a year.”
