ITE held its Student Achievers' Awards Ceremony on 22 May, where a total of 417 students were recognised for their excellence in arts, sports, co-curricular activities, and technological innovation. Among them, 53 students received top accolades, including the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award, the Co-curricular Activity Distinction Award, and the Technology Award. One of the Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award recipients was Azaleagrace Teo Gek Khim (Zhang Yuqin). Azaleagrace’s traumatic childhood left emotional scars that deeply affected her during her secondary school years, leading to frequent absenteeism and even having to repeat a year. She later entered ITE through an early admissions exercise and enrolled in the Nitec course in Urban Greenery and Landscape. She pursued a Higher Nitec in Interactive Media Design, completing a six-month internship at the same company. Azaleagrace is now in SP’s Diploma in Media Arts & Design. Beyond her studies and work, she is also committed to giving back to society. She is a founding member of OWENA, the alumni wing of the “Morning Light” support group, which helps girls who have experienced trauma rebuild their lives. As the group’s secretary, she plans events, leads fundraising efforts, and helps build an alumni network to provide continued support for its members. Another Lee Kuan Yew Model Student Award recipient, Xi Junyao, also overcame a difficult past. Joining ITE marked a turning point. In the new environment, Xi gradually opened up and rediscovered his passion for learning. During his internship, Xi joined the NUS’ Information Systems and Business Process Management department, where he helped develop automation processes. His outstanding performance earned him a full-time job offer and funding from NUS to pursue professional certification courses. Today, he is pursuing a Diploma in Information Technology at TP, while attending professional development courses.
