Witnessing how their grandparents struggle with phone and online scams, and deeply aware of the pressure and helplessness that seniors face in the digital age, SP students from the Diploma in Media, Arts & Design have created a board game and interactive programme to help older adults gain digital skills and recognise scam messages through innovative methods. Through a competition, SP graduate Alicia Hong En Ting and her classmates co-developed a board game called “Digi-Up!”, which is modelled after the classic game “Snakes and Ladders” but infused with digital knowledge and anti-scam tips. The goal is to help seniors enhance their digital skills and scam awareness in a fun and accessible way. Since its launch in June last year, the team has engaged over 180 seniors through workshops and roadshows, and trained young volunteers to guide players and encourage intergenerational bonding. Another outstanding graduate from SP is Riley Kang who was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Award and the OCBC Prize. A Diploma in Engineering with Business alumna, Kang has been interested in technology since young. She was inspired by watching the Budget speech in Secondary 4, realising that engineering is not just about innovation but also about serving communities and solving real-world problems. SP is holding its 65th graduation ceremony from 2 to 8 May, with over 5,000 graduates this year. This includes the first cohort of 163 students who completed new Minor programmes in Asia Readiness, 5G & Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), Business Management, Data & AI, and Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability. Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, and Trade and Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling who attended the graduation ceremony, encouraged students to engage in lifelong learning, maintain an innovative spirit, find social issues that resonate with them, and actively contribute back to the society and to Singapore’s development.
