The first ever Don Norman Design Award 2025 Summit held in Asia at SP from 19 - 21 November featured Maheshwari Selvakumar, an SP Diploma in Information Technology student from Flexiyard, who has created lanyards made from recycled Batik fabric, Inloo, a device designed to help older adults stand up from the toilet, and AAC Messenger, an app that supports people with speech impairments.
Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Education and Sustainability and Environment, launched the new mural painted by SP students as part of the Green Mosaic programme by UOB and the SG Eco Fund.
Dr Janil Puthucheary highlighted Singapore’s designation as a UNESCO City of Innovative Design, noting the region’s expanding role in driving social-impact solutions. Several projects received awards, including the Excellence award presented to Yishun Community Hospital’s Caring Communities initiative. Other honourees included Commenhers, Frasers Property Singapore, and Health District@Queenstown, all recognised for advancing user-experience approaches inspired by Don Norman.
SP UXC published their HCD+ Innovation Playbook, inspired by Professor Emeritus Don Norman. The centre also received the DNDA for Education in 2024.
New DT|UX Regional Consortium partnerships were forged, with one being with The Design Village, India.
MOUs were signed with Thammasat University, CSC, Kin Living, and Project Dignity. Dr Sridhar Riali from Thammasat University said he attended the Summit to learn about the future of teaching methods in the world of AI.
