Teamwork Framework

SP's Teamwork Framework

Why Teamwork Matters at SP

Moving beyond technical prowess, SP is doubling down on the human skills required for the future workplace. Launched in the Academic Year 23/24, the Teamwork Framework will enhance students’ collaboration skills, and allow each student’s teamwork ability to be evaluated objectively across their three years in SP through a validated peer rating system. This initiative underscores SP’s commitment to nurturing graduates who excel in teamwork and are prepared to thrive in dynamic, real-world environments

SP offers extensive programmes to develop teamwork, including Common Core, Domain, and Choice modules. Teamwork skills are cultivated through module projects, final year projects, leadership development, and co-curricular activities.

How Teamwork is Assessed

SP uses the validated CATME (Comprehensive Assessment of Team Member Effectiveness) system from Purdue University, USA. CATME is widely used by thousands of institutions worldwide, including prestigious universities. Students work in teams of 3–5 each semester and assess one another’s teamwork behaviours using a standard matrix.

The five dimensions assessed are:

  • Contribution to the team’s work
  • Interest in teammates’ ideas
  • Keeping the team on track
  • Caring for quality work
  • Demonstrating relevant knowledge and skill

Rank Point Average Computation

After each project, students receive a Teamwork Rank Point based on peer assessment. These points accumulate over three years, providing a holistic view of each student’s teamwork competency.

Example:

Student Avg PA Rank Points Awarded
A 4.95 1 1.00
B 4.88 2 0.75
C 4.86 3 0.50
D 4.80 4 0.25
E 4.78 5 0.00

This process is repeated for selected modules in each semester and the cumulative rank points form the basis for the final teamwork competency score.

Awards at Graduation

Upon graduation, students in the top 50% will receive a digital certificate officially recognising their demonstrated teamwork proficiency. At the end of the 3-year diploma, each student’s aggregate teamwork rank point is computed. Based on their average score, students are awarded as follows:
