At SP’s Open House, students showcased a range of projects combining industry application and social impact. One highlight was the collaboration with local brand Serich, where students helped develop a steroid-free moisturiser for eczema, guided by SP Consumer Chemicals Technology Centre’s Senior Lead Research Scientist Chris Ching over 8–9 months. Second-year Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science student Charmaine Wam Qin Qi noted stability testing was a major challenge. Another project came from eight students from the Media, Arts & Design School who created an immersive VR horror game called The Paper Bride, inspired by Peranakan culture. The game lets players explore a wedding in a traditional Peranakan house and uncover the story of the character “Yu Niang.” Student Zhan Mingyang led scene design, and the team visited the Peranakan Museum to ensure cultural accuracy. A third project was from third-year Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering student Hou Jia Jun, who developed a unified AI learning platform called AskMe, Cher! and AskWhat, Cher!, addressing scattered learning tools and enabling self-study, review, and progress tracking. The platform is currently being used by about 1,200 students across five schools.
