The School of Mathematics & Science (MS) focuses on building foundational skills in math, science, statistics, and analytics, preparing you for today’s job market. You'll get hands-on experience at SP in Physics Labs, the DevLab, and the AICoLab. Our programs have been getting students ready for work and lifelong learning since 1954.
Welcome to the School of Mathematics & Science —where we believe the best way to predict the future is to build the skills to shape it. We go beyond equations to build the essential, adaptable foundations that will serve you throughout your entire career.
Our commitment to building strong foundations is reinforced by a dedicated team who are constantly engaged in real-world industry projects. They don't just teach the curriculum; they bring their latest, relevant experience directly into the classroom.
We are committed to being the analytical foundation for the entire polytechnic and the industry beyond. We aim to build with critical, future-ready skills:
We invite you to explore our programmes, connect with our dedicated team, and become part of a community that is actively building essential future skills.
Best regards,
Dr Edna CHAN
Acting Director, School of Mathematics & Science
MS has three learning laboratories that support the Physics and Engineering & Technology Project modules of the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP). These laboratories provide students with the space and equipment to conduct physics experiments, engineering projects and to participate in demonstrations. Through these hands-on activities, the students discover physics concepts in an engaging and interactive manner, broaden their knowledge and develop critical thinking skills.

There are 3 consultation rooms (i.e. Alpha, Beta and Gamma rooms) to provide learning space for students to consult teaching staff for project discussions or remedial lessons. Alpha room also serve as a hot-desk working area for adjunct lecturers. In addition, Learning Space @ MS is furnished with teaching resources unit and social space to provide complimentary teaching aids, facilitate staff interaction and exchange of ideas.

The development laboratory provides a space for staff to brainstorm, design, construct and develop experiments or activities related to teaching and research. The laboratory is equipped with a 3D-printer, Arduino kits and other tools to support research and development. It also consists of multiple wall partitions, movable tables and chairs to facilitate small group discussions. There are also display cabinets to showcase 3D models and projects.

The DevLab provides a space for the interns to brainstorm, design, construct and develop experiments or activities related to data science and analytics. The laboratory is equipped with movable tables and chairs to facilitate project planning and development. Completed projects will also be showcased at different stations within the DevLab where users can learn and experience through the mini learning journey.

The AICoLab provides a space for staff and guests from the industry to discuss and collaborate on data analytics and AI related projects. The lab is equipped with CCTVs and 5 Smart TVs to support the projects and activities. It also consists of multiple wall partitions, fixed tables and movable chairs to facilitate small group discussions.
