On 22 October 2025, the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) Marine & Offshore Energy Youth Forum 2025 brought together students, researchers and industry leaders to explore the innovations shaping the maritime and offshore sectors. During the hackathon segment, our students worked alongside peers from polytechnics and universities to tackle real industry challenges, showcasing the adaptability and problem-solving skills nurtured at SP.
One standout achievement came from Reuben Tan, a Year 1 student from the Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics (DAAA) course whose team emerged as Champion in the Offshore category. Reflecting on the experience, Reuben shared that the hackathon pushed the team beyond their comfort zones, strengthened their collaboration skills, and provided rare exposure to the complexity of the maritime domain. Working with students from institutions such as NTU broadened their perspectives and deepened their appreciation of cross-disciplinary teamwork.
More than a competition, the experience highlighted how our students are ready to contribute to future-focused industries with creativity, technical proficiency and resilience. Their win demonstrates the strength of SoC’s applied learning approach, where students apply classroom knowledge to meaningful challenges and gain the confidence to step into emerging tech-driven sectors.
