5 polys upgrade courses to meet AI developments, Joint open houses in Jan

Singapore’s five polytechnics are updating and strengthening their programmes to keep pace with rapid advances in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, while equipping students with future-ready skills. In response to industry transformation, the institutions are expanding hands-on learning, deepening industry engagement and introducing new interdisciplinary courses. NP will launch the polytechnic sector’s first Diploma in Computing with Law, a programme designed to train hybrid professionals who can bridge technology, AI and legal or regulatory work. About 60 per cent of its courses have already been refreshed to enhance experiential learning and industry exposure. SP is renaming its School of Mathematics and Science to the School of Mathematical Sciences and Analytics, reflecting a stronger focus on data and analytics. It is introducing new data and AI minors, certificates and specialist diplomas in areas such as data analytics, predictive analytics and visual analytics, catering to both full-time students and adult learners. RP will showcase more than 40 course booths across its seven schools during its open house, alongside a dedicated AI innovation zone where prospective students can explore real-world AI applications through interactive exhibits and competitions. TP is pushing ahead with AI-integrated teaching across all six schools, equipping classrooms with tools such as real-time transcription, AI-generated summaries and interactive visualisation to boost engagement and learning efficiency. Its leadership highlighted the importance of combining generative AI with human insight and applied learning to prepare students for a fast-changing economy. TP’s Principal and CEO, Mr Patrice Choong, said that combining generative AI with human insight and applied learning will prepare students to meet future workforce needs and contribute meaningfully to society. NYP will complement its open house with both daytime and evening activities, including experiential AI- and drone-related showcases, performances by student groups and the opening of new learning and social spaces to support collaboration and student wellbeing. From 8 to 10 January, all five polytechnics will hold open houses simultaneously, giving students and parents opportunities to explore courses, attend talks and workshops, and experience how each polytechnic is adapting education to meet the demands of an AI-driven future.
