Republic Polytechnic to expand use of AI in Students' learning

RP is rolling out a campus-wide AI transformation to ensure all students gain hands-on experience with AI in their coursework and are workforce-ready. Rather than treating AI as a standalone subject, students will use AI tools directly within their modules, tailored to each discipline. For example, supply chain students will apply AI to optimise logistics, creative arts students will integrate generative AI into content creation while maintaining ethical standards, and hotel management students can practise guest interactions via AI-driven chatbots. By 2027, at least half of all discipline-specific modules will incorporate AI applications mirroring workplace tools. The transformation follows a four-level approach: building foundational understanding, applying AI ethically, developing industry-relevant AI tools, and culminating in AI design. Assessment methods are updated to include not just final outputs, but thinking processes and effective use of AI. RP’s AI initiative extends to its Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes, equipping adult learners with AI skills for productivity, data analysis, and industry-relevant applications. Staff AI training is also underway, with all 1,200 employees expected to reach baseline proficiency by the end of 2026. Ms Jeanne Liew, RP’s Principal & CEO, said the goal of this transformation is to create an environment where every learner is empowered to succeed in the AI era. By bringing the use of AI into the classroom, strengthening workforce capabilities and working closely with industry partners, she said learners will have the confidence, judgment and skills to use and navigate new technologies. RP has partnered with industry leaders including AI Singapore, Autodesk, Microsoft, Nvidia, and ST Engineering to provide students access to professional-grade AI tools, applied research, and innovation challenges. Other local polytechnics are also advancing AI integration: NP has been embedding generative AI across all diploma courses since 2023, with full implementation by 2026; SP equips all students with basic AI literacy through a core curriculum; NYP introduced baseline generative AI training in all diploma courses in October 2025; and TP launched an experimental design studio in January 2024 for design students to learn and experiment with generative AI. Together, these initiatives aim to equip students with the confidence, judgment, and skills to navigate and excel in an AI-driven future.
