SP graduand from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment, Faydra Neo, reimagines traditional classrooms through her project “PlayState”, which promotes flexible, experiential, and student-driven learning environments. Instead of fixed desks and one-way teaching, her design features movable furniture, adaptable spaces, and outdoor learning areas to support different learning styles, collaboration and creativity. Inspired by her own experience of feeling restricted in conventional classrooms, she incorporates elements like role-play, hands-on activities, colour psychology and nature-based spaces to make learning more engaging and inclusive, including for students with diverse needs. Developed in collaboration with a local school and aligned with Singapore’s push towards STEM and experiential learning, PlayState is a concept that could be partially adopted in schools through simple changes like flexible layouts and interactive spaces.
