This year, SP celebrates the graduation of its first cohort of 163 students who completed Minor programmes in addition to their main three-year diploma courses. These students pursued minors in emerging fields, including Asia-Readiness, 5G & Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), Business Management, Data and AI, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability. Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, and Trade and Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling, who attended the graduation ceremony, remarked that in today’s turbulent global landscape and times of significant transformation, the broad knowledge these students have acquired will better equip them to face future challenges. She added that both the government and educational institutions are preparing young Singaporeans for the jobs of the future. Regardless of how the world changes, the skills learned by SP students will continue to serve them well. In addition, a total of nine outstanding graduates were presented the highest honours this year. One of them is Diploma in Biomedical Sciences alumnus, Donavon Tan, who received the Lee Kuan Yew Award. He said that after graduating from secondary school, most of his classmates chose to go to a junior college, but he chose to go to a polytechnic as he had already figured out what he wanted to do with his career. The SP curriculum was focused on professional skills and more hands-on than that of JCs, which would allow him to attain relevant knowledge and practical experience earlier. He has been admitted to NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and wants to pursue a career in Oncology. Similar news reported in Capital 95.8 and Shicheng News.
