Tourism careers take flight at Singapore’s first hospitality and tourism conference

The inaugural Singapore Hospitality & Tourism Conference (SHTC) 2025 was held on 17 October at Marina Bay Sands, alongside ITB Asia, featuring panel discussions and a career fair offering about 700 immediate job opportunities from over 20 companies such as Mandai Wildlife Group, Conrad Singapore Orchard, and Singapore Airlines. According to Ms Rachel Loh, executive director for hospitality and tourism talent at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the industry is evolving beyond traditional roles, with new positions such as data scientists at Marina Bay Sands and international ski and snowboard management trainees at EU Holidays. She noted that hospitality—employing 43% of the tourism workforce—is expanding, with 1,500 new hotel rooms expected by end-2026. STB reported a 66% increase in students choosing tourism and hospitality courses, now totalling around 1,500 students across IHLs. Mid-career participation in work-study programmes has also grown, from 70 two years ago to 100 this year, based on RP’s figures, supported by Continuing Education and Training (CET) centres like NTUC LearningHub, which has a three-year partnership with STB. SHTC 2025 evolved from the annual Tourism Transformation event, previously organised by the Tourism Sector Coordinator Team comprising six IHLs – the ITE, NYP, NP, RP, SP, and TP. Now rebranded and expanded with new partners including STB, the Singapore Institute of Technology, and the Singapore University of Social Sciences, the conference aims to strengthen Singapore’s talent pipeline and build a future-ready workforce for the hospitality and tourism sector.
