19-year-old young teacher volunteers to teach migrant workers computer skills

SP student Tan Kai Heng, Josef, 19, spends his free time volunteering as a teacher for migrant workers, helping them learn computer skills such as AutoCAD, PowerPoint, and Excel through the non-profit organisation 24asia. A second-year SP Diploma in Computer Engineering student and recipient of the National Youth Achievement Award (Gold) in October 2024, Tan first became active in community service while studying at ITE College West. He joined 24asia in early 2024 and, despite now serving as its External Liaison and Partnerships Lead, continues to assist with teaching monthly. Tan said he was motivated by the fact that migrant workers contribute greatly to Singapore’s development but often cannot afford upskilling courses. Their dedication to learning — even with only two rest days a month — deeply inspires him.
