Hansini Prisha, a 20-year-old electrical engineering student at the National University of Singapore and SP Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering alumna, has received the Institution of Engineers Singapore’s education bursary. Her interest in engineering was sparked by a high school competition aimed at solving issues such as food waste, where she won a Special Merit Award. Initially, she missed an opportunity to attend SP due to uncertainty about her field of study. However, competitions organised by IES reignited her passion, leading her to engage in numerous projects and international competitions. Hansini aims to merge her interests in entrepreneurship, robotics, and environmental science to tackle challenges such as Singapore’s food waste crisis. She acknowledges the growing need for engineers in a job market increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence, and she proudly notes the rising presence of women in engineering, emphasizing the dedication required to succeed in a male-dominated environment. Her father supports her growth by encouraging independent thinking in her projects.
