After spending 33 years working at sea, Capt Somaasundram Sinnathamby, a 58-year-old master mariner from Penang, recently fulfilled his late father’s dream by becoming a lawyer, and was called to the Bar on the same day as his son. Before entering the legal profession, he had a long maritime career but later decided to pursue law, studying while transitioning from life at sea. His son had already completed his legal training earlier, and the father-son pair are now both practising lawyers. Earlier in his education journey, Sinnathamby studied at SP, before eventually embarking on his law studies decades later, demonstrating that it is possible to switch careers and pursue new ambitions even later in life.
