Three Gen Z Singaporeans have built unconventional careers in the music industry by combining creativity, entrepreneurship and multiple skill sets beyond traditional performer roles. These include guitar technician and business owner Hazieq “Wax” Nizam, percussionist Desiree Orien Tay, and music label founder Dominic Yuan, each of whom has carved out a unique path in Singapore's evolving music scene. Hazieq, who runs Wax Guitar Services, turned a passion for repairing guitars into a full-time business and has worked with international musicians while touring with Singapore bands. He graduated from RP with a Diploma in Sonic Arts and later earned a second Diploma in Business Administration from NP. Meanwhile, Dominic Yuan founded independent music label Parka, which supports emerging Singapore and regional artistes. Before launching the company, he completed a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology at SP and later pursued business studies at SMU. His label has helped develop rising music talents and foster cross-border collaborations in Southeast Asia.
